This is an 87 XJ with the 4.0, AW4, 231 t-case, front D30 and rear D44.
Laredo model, tow package, all skids, power everything.
When I bought it, we had to bring a new battery (red top that was on sale) and a new pressure bottle for the cooling system just to drive it home. After leaving the home we purchased it from, we stopped at the gas station because the gauge didn't work and the previous owner wasn't sure how much gas was in the tank. It was at the station that we learned the tank leaked badly. It was during the drive home that I realized the steering was scary and the brakes were close to non-existent. I also found during that drive that the cooling system was not functioning well as the Jeep was overheating. The electric fan runs all the time and there is "extra" wiring running throughout the Jeep. The CCV system is shot, and the idle is around 1500 to 1900 rpm. The battery cable are bare. We had one key for the ignition, and none for the doors or rear hatch which is locked.
If you read my main page, then you know I got burned out building my jeeps and not wheeling them. My plan for this one is to build a very good wheeler that maintains good daily driver manners. I will rely on the aftermarket for most mods I plan to do, but I will build some things for myself. so, on to the main items;
Lift - 4.5" using RE components including the front drop brackets
Lift - 5" using RE front coils (my axle brackets are .5" taller then stock) with my custom crossmember and longarms and a rear custom spring pack with shackles
Tires/Wheels - 33" (MTRs or Truxus) and steel wheels
Tires/Wheels - 35" BFG MTs (used) and Outlaw II rims (used)
231 with AA SYE, 2Low and rebuild
Dual battery system relocated to rear of vehicle
On board welder
On board air using a york compressor
8,000lbs winch
My custom bumpers and rockers
Rear Detroit, Front Lock Right, 4.88s and alloy shafts
Rear axle is my old FSJ M20, welded with 4.88s
Front axle is my old FSJ D44, with lockright and 4.88s
and many other small touches.
So, some of my plans have changed. Recently my buddy that had purchased all my Jeep stuff fell on hard times and needed to sale it all. So we were in a position to buy it all back. What we got; the MJ back, it was 2WD and I was in the middle of converting it to 4WD and building it up with all the components from Red. This will be my daughter's ride once I fix some issues on it; next I got back my waggy axles; my crossmember and longarms; my bumpers; my 35"MTs on rims; and many other odds and ends. So as you can see from the changes I made above, I will be using these components to build the 87.
